By kblackav8or - Friday, December 30, 2016 4:49 PM I am looking to buy this engine to replace the dead 8v92 in a truck I am buying to restore. Can anyone ID which DDEC version this is? What are the differences between the various DDEC versions of the 8v92? Trying to get Detroit smart. Would like to keep this truck mostly original and it would seem keeping 92 in it would be the easiest way to get it functional again. Model# would be 8087-7840 or similar, and vin would be 8VF 100,000 or similar. Seems most of the young electronic techs are on the Facebook Detroit Diesel Enthusiasts page. By glenn akers - Saturday, December 31, 2016 1:17 PM That is a DDEC 2 but i have a DDEC 3 manual.I know the first engines had DDEC 1 on them. By kblackav8or - Saturday, December 31, 2016 5:01 PM That is good info. Now at least I know it is DDEC 2. I am getting the engine at some point. I don't have the story of where it came from or what it was in. Story I have is it was rebuilt, then someone hooked up something wrong and supposedly cooked something in the electronics. By glenn akers - Sunday, January 01, 2017 12:05 PM What tells me its a DDEC2 is the ECM is located on the left of the control panel and will be the dark color box.The harnesses all come out on one end.If it was a DDEC3 it would have wire harnesses coming out both ends. The DDEC 1 was a short lived system and most of us have never seen one. By glenn akers - Sunday, January 01, 2017 12:11 PM The box on the right side of the control panel is what we call a break /out box which only takes place of the truck wiring to be able to run the engine in a stand along mode.We used them to trouble shoot a system to find out if a problem was in the truck wiring or engine wiring. That was big money back years ago for a shop to buy. By kblackav8or - Sunday, January 01, 2017 1:53 PM I have been told it is 440 horsepower rated 8V92TA. With that test stand we should be able to troubleshoot what ailes it and test run it before we think of putting it in. Hopefully I can have it running and ready to go in the truck for less then 1k in parts. By junkmandan - Sunday, January 01, 2017 2:15 PM Kevin----On the 6V92 and 60 series, the ECU is interchangeable. So an 8V92 and a box of an 8V 149 could interchange. But there's also wizards that rebuild ECUs. Hi all, Those days i am trying to make a Detroit-Diesel sound mod for the W900A. Thread: Detroit 8V92 vs. Cummins NTC-400. Problem with the Detroit Engines are they are very noise and the 2 cycle leak oil like a bastard. I had a 671 detroit for years and it had a hard time pulling out of its own shadow!! But the consensus was to leave it Detroit Diesel powered. I strongly dislike 2stroke Diesel engines Bryan Smith.
